Pappu Chaaru

Pappu Chaaru

Paapu chaaru is soupy recipe. It is very spicy. We need to prepare a special powder.It is called saambaar kaaraam.

Ingredients:

Onions-2
Tamarind -small lemon sized ball
Red gram-2 cups
Garlic cloves-10
Mustard seeds-1tsp
Cumin seeds-1tsp
Red chillies-3 
Salt -to taste
Red chilli powder-1tbsp
Turmeric powder-1tsp
Oil-1tbsp
Saambaar kaaraam-1tbsp
Preparation:
Soak tamarind in water.

Cut onions into blocks.
Peel the skin of garlic.
Cook red gram.
Procedure:
Heat oil in a thick bottomed vessel. Put mustard seeds, cumin seeds and red chillies. When they start popping add garlic and onions. Fry them for about 3 minutes or till the onions become soft. Meanwhile take thick tamarind pulp. Add tamarind pulp to the above fried onions. Add salt and turmeric powder. Allow it to boil for 2 minutes. Simmer the stove and allow it to boil till the onions cooked. Add saambaar kaaraam and red chilli powder. Let it boil thoroughly. Add cooked dal and again allow it to boil for 2 minutes. Season it with fresh curry leaves and corriander leaves. Serve it with hot steam rice.
