Berry and Oat Porridge

Berry and Oat Porridge

Berry and oat porridgeGive your kids the best start to the day with Renée Elliott's versatile fruity porridge
Renée: "Soaked porridge is a family favourite - and incrediblyversatile. The sweet, tart berries featured in this version will be a great flavour experience for your baby, but you can use any mixture of stewed or fresh fruits. From 15 months you can add ground seeds and/or nuts, too."
Serves 4

INGREDIENTS

  • 115g porridge oats
  • 1 tbsp kefir natural yoghurt
  • 250ml natural yoghurt
  • 125g berries, such as raspberries, blueberries or blackberries

METHOD

  1. Put the oats and kefir in a small saucepan. Add 750ml/26fl oz/3 cups water and leave to soak, covered, overnight atroom temperature.
  2. Bring the soaked oats to a simmer over a medium heat, then reduce the heat to low and cook, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes until soft and creamy. Remove from the heat.
  3. Mix in the yogurt and berries. If the mixture is too coarse, transfer it to a blender and blend for 1 minute until smooth. If using a blender with a plastic container, leave the porridge to cool completely before blending. Serve warm, reheating if necessary.
Tip: Refrigerate for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
