Soya Chunk/Meal Maker Curry


Soya Chunk or meal maker is a textured vegetable protein or textured soy protein a by-product of soya bean oil. They are made from a mixture proteins extracted from soya beans, cotton seeds, wheat and oats.It is then made into different shapes and sizes. Soya chunks or meal maker can be used as a substitute to meat and poultry products. Vegetarians can add it with other vegetables and prepare excellent healthy dishes. They get the same proteins as in meat and poultry products.
It is quick and easy to cook.

Ingredients:
Soya chunks/ Meal maker-2cups
Onions-2 
Tomatoes-2
Ginger-Garlic paste-1tbsp
Red chilli powder-1tsp
Salt-to taste
Turmeric powder-1/2tsp
Garam Masala powder-1tsp
Curd-1tbsp
Cashew nut paste-1tbsp (optional)
Jeera/ Cumin seeds-1tsp

Preparation:

Before preparing any recipe with soya chunks we need to cook them.

Boil water in a thick bottomed vessel. Add soya chunks and leave them for a while. 

After 5 minutes and drain water and press them with hand. If we want them in the same shape, just cool them.  

Chop onion, tomato and green chillies

Make cashew nut paste(optional).
Make ginger garlic paste (normally this is available in the super markets but if we want to use fresh one we can make it. Simply take 5 or 6 cloves of garlic and little piece of ginger and grind them in the mixer grinder)

Procedure:

Heat oil in a kadai, add cumin seeds. 

When they started splutter add chopped onions.

Add ginger garlic paste. Saute them till they turn brown.

Add tomatoes. 

Add all the other spices.
Add turmeric powder.
Add salt.


Add red chilli powder.


Add garam masala powder.

Add a little water to cook them. 

Once onions and tomatoes are cooked add soya chunks and allow it to boil. 


Add curd and cashew nut paste.Serve hot with phulka or jawar ki roti.
